It’s officially hurricane season here in Florida, which means it’s likely a few storms will come our way. The storms aren’t always bad, but every once in a while we get a big one. If you’ve lived here long enough you’ve seen the screened porches blown away and the roofs torn off. It’s important for our homes here to have a good, solid foundation. You’ll find that almost all of the newer houses are built with concrete or stucco. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, new building codes were enforced to make houses more hurricane proof. Building a home sturdy enough to weather even the strongest storm isn’t cheap – and the same is true for building a strong spiritual foundation.

In 1 Corinthians 3:9-15 Paul talks about having a foundation that will stand. “If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.” We already have the firm foundation – the gospel. We already have the great cornerstone – Jesus Christ. So let’s not build a shack on a foundation of marble. When it comes to the church and your spiritual life, don’t build cheap! While it may take more effort and resources to build something that will last, it’s worth it in the end.

We’re here to help each other build something that will last eternally. We are co-laborers building upon God’s strong foundation. I’m excited to talk more about a plan to build something together this Sunday at Family Church!
